The Hepatitis C Management Course - For Health Care Workers examines the emerging issues in Hepatitis C (HCV). Topics covered include: epidemiology; pathogenesis and virology; transmission and prevention; clinical manifestations and natural history; psychosocial and quality of life issues; management options; side effects of therapy; complementary therapies; and harm minimisation philosophies. This course assumes no knowledge in HCV and topics are covered in depth.
Aims and Objectives::
The 'Hepatitis C Management Course - For Health Care Workers' aims to enhance and maintain a competent level of knowledge and skills in the prevention and management of HCV among health care professionals working Queensland.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to::
- To have a basic knowledge about hepatitis C (HCV)
- To recall rates of HCV infection in Queensland
- To recall the ways to prepare a patient for HCV diagnosis
- To recall the ways HCV is transmitted and how transmission can be prevented
- To understand how harm reduction strategies reduce the likelihood of HCV transmission
- To understand how hepatitis C is diagnosed and monitored
- To recall best practice guidelines in the treatment and management of people with HCV
- To have knowledge of a range of HCV consumer health issues
- To be able to apply your knowledge to specific issues surrounding HCV

Click here for the latest course outline of the Hepatitis C Management Course - For Health Care Workers. The course is usually conducted once a year in the Brisbane area. The course is updated each time it is conducted based on changes in medicine and on feedback from previous courses.
Requirements::
The HIV & HCV Education Projects of the School of Medicine, The University of Queensland has funding from Queensland Health to provide Hepatitis C Education Courses for medical practitioners and health care professionals, respectively. Each course aims to provide a basic overview of hepatitis C including epidemiology and natural history, transmission, prevention and harm minimisation, tests, management and treatment. The courses assume no prior HCV knowledge and are able to cater for audience diversity. There is pre reading associated with this course and participants are expected to complete this prior to the course.
Course Reading::
Although the Hepatitis C Management Course - For Health Care Workers assumes no prior knowledge of HCV, it does discuss topics in depth. To prepare for this course therefore, participants are asked to complete the following readings. These readings are sent to each course participant 3 weeks prior to the course.

Course Length::
The Hepatitis C Management Course - For Health Care Workers has been designed to be conducted across one day – 8.30am to 4.30pm. To-date, it has usually been conducted on a weekday.Cost to the Participant::
Participants from Queensland are eligible to enrol in this course free of charge as the course is funded by Queensland Health.
Participants from interstate and overseas are charged a fee of $110.00 per day. This covers course folder, material and resources, meals, mail outs and course certificate.
A “no show” penalty fee applies. If you do not show up on the day and have not previously informed course organisers, a tax invoice will be sent to you for the amount described in the application form. This policy exists because courses are very often over subscribed and waiting lists exist.
