Professor David Wilkinson

David is Professor of Primary Care and Head of the School of Medicine at UQ. He is a GP and a specialist in public health medicine. Prior to coming to Australia 7 years ago as Foundation Chair in Rural Health in South Australia, he worked in rural South Africa for 12 years as a clinician, medical administrator and public health researcher. David grew up in the UK, studied medicine and pharmacology at Manchester University, and has an epidemiology masters from Columbia University, USA. He has doctoral degrees from the University of Natal in South Africa and from the University of South Australia.

David has worked in primary care skin cancer medicine since 2005. His role in the masters is strategic leadership and development in addition to significant contributions to content.

Associate Professor of Medical Ethics - UQ

Associate Professor Scott Kitchener

Malcolm is Associate Professor of Medical Ethics in the School of Medicine, UQ, and has coordinated the Ethics & Professional Practice domain in the MBBS program from its inception.  He has been a general practitioner for thirty years.  He has qualifications in medicine, philosophy and health law, and has published nationally and internationally in the philosophy of medicine, bioethics, medical ethics, health law, and medical education.  He is a board member of Australasian Bioethics and Health Law Associations, chair or member of three human ethics committees, and a board member of the Postgraduate Medical Education Council of Queensland. 

Malcolm’s role in the Masters is to develop the curriculum and discussion of professional issues for the courses.

Dr Alister Lilleyman MBBS

Dr Alister Lilleyman

Alister has worked as a surgical registrar for 6 years, including 15 months in plastic surgery at Royal Perth, Sir Charles Gairdner and Royal North Shore Hospitals. This involved skin cancer, burns and pressure sore management and reconstruction with a wide range of flaps and grafts. He also has extensive experience in the surgical management of melanoma and its metastases and is an Associate of the Mater Melanoma Unit. Alister has worked in skin cancer medicine for the last three years and currently practices at the Hunter Skin Cancer Clinic. He also works at the Vein and Laser Centre in Newcastle specialising in the medical and minor surgical management of varicose veins.

Alister coordinates the Therapeutics 2: Surgical Repair course of the masters.

Dr Deborah Hawthorne MBBS FRACGP

Deborah has trained and worked as a general practitioner in both urban and rural Australia, including several years in remote health in the Northern Territory. During her time in Arnhem Land she worked as a general practitioner and also for Northern Territory General Practice Education Ltd (NTGPE Ltd) as a Medical Educator. She also represented the Top End Division of General Practice (of which she was a board member) on the board of NTGPE Ltd.

Deborah currently resides on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. For the past three years she has worked part time in a skin cancer clinic. She is currently a Medical Educator with gplearning, the online education division of the RACGP. She has been an examiner for the Fellowship of the RACGP for the past five years. This year she commenced work as a Clinical Tutor for medical students with the University of Queensland.

Deborah coordinates the Core Knowledge & Professional Practice course for the masters.

Dr John Pyne MBBS MMed (skin cancer) BOptom(Hons) FSCCA(Hon)

Dr John Pyne

John served in the Australian Military (Army) prior to studying Medicine. He is a Sydney graduate with 20 years clinical experience. John has previous appointments to the Melanoma Unit, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney and St George Skin Cancer Clinic, St George Private Hospital, Kogarah, Sydney. John completed the Master of Medicine (Primary Care Skin Cancer Medicine) at UQ in 2007. John is currently the Clinical Co-ordinator for the Masters at UQ and is in Private Practice at Miranda (Sydney).

 

Dr Timothy Hackett MBBS MMed (skin cancer) Dip. Dermoscopy (Graz)

Tim has worked full time in "Primary Skin Cancer Medicine" for the past 4 years. Prior to this, he worked for 15 years as a full time GP in his own general practice. He passed the Master of Medicine (Primary Skin Cancer Medicine) in its first intake, and passed with distinction the International Dermoscopy Diploma from Graz University. His current practice involves assessment of patients for skin cancer, dermoscopy of the skin (including short and long term monitoring), diagnosis and surgical treatment of melanoma, diagnosis of non-melanoma skin cancer and treatment via a number of surgical and non surgical treatments (including Metvix PDT and generic ALA) and reconstruction of small to medium facial defects with a range of flaps and grafts.

Tim coordinates the Common Clinical Problems course of the masters.

Dr Tony Dicker MBBS PhD

Dr Tony Dicker

Tony has spent the past 3 years practicing full time skin cancer medicine in Melbourne, and the previous 2 years practicing skin cancer medicine in Brisbane. Prior to this he obtained his PhD in molecular biology of skin cancer with Professor Ian Frazer's group at Princess Alexandra Hospital and Queensland University in Brisbane, then spent three years as a dermatology registrar at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Princess Alexandra hospital, and the private practice dermatology registrar position. He graduated from Monash University in 1989.

Tony coordinates the Therapeutics 1: Medical treatments course of the Masters.
