The University of Queensland welcomes applications for academic titles from health professionals who contribute significantly to its teaching and/or research activities and who are not paid directly or indirectly by the University. Appointments are offered for a period of three years made in recognition of a wide range of professional attachments and collaborative partnerships.
Committees established by the School of Medicine Executive assess appointments up to and including Associate Professor. This Committee is responsible for assessing and recommending the appropriate academic title to the Executive Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences.
Applicants applying for Associate Professor appointments for the first time will be asked to attend interviews, organised by the Faculty of Health Sciences, as part of the appointment process. Health professionals who hold academic titles are eligible to apply for promotion in the final year of their three year appointment.
Those who wish to apply for a new academic title, promotion, or renewal up to and including the level of Associate Professor, must submit an application and curriculum vitae via the link below for consideration by the School of Medicine - for Professor level see below. Applicants who are involved with MBBS teaching please note that the indicative academic level for Junior Medical Officers is Associate Lecturer and for VMOs/Staff Specialists/Senior Medical Officers (Queensland Health, Mater Health Services or Private Practitioners) is Senior Lecturer. Higher levels are available subject to teaching and research performance as detailed in the checklist. Hospital registrars who are eligible for academic title at the level of Associate Lecturer, as part of their Hospital appointment, should not apply through this system - a letter will be issued automatically outlining appointment details. QIMR (Queensland Institute of Medical Research) employees should not apply for an academic title but apply for an adjunct title by contacting Human Resources, Danielle Mills (07) 3346 4673.
Applicants who wish to apply to the level of Professor (either promotion or new) are not required to submit an application via the link below, but rather should contact the Head of the School of Medicine in the first instance on 3365 5316. However renewals of Professor titles are required to submit an application via the link below.
The University of Queensland Senate approves selection committees for all Professorial appointments. Senate must refer recommendations for Professorial titles to the Vice-Chancellor in the first instance for approval. Applicants granted approval to proceed with an application for promotion to Professorial level must submit an academic portfolio (Word, 418KB) in accordance with Policy 5.80.12 or Policy 5.80.14 for Promotion to Professor from the Handbook of University Policies and Procedures.
