RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". It is a way to easily distribute news headlines, update notices, and sometimes content to a wide number of people.
The main benefit of RSS is that it circumvents the need for repeatedly checking a web sites news or announcements pages to see if there is any new content.
If you subscribe to an RSS feed using an "RSS Aggregator" or "RSS Reader" you will be automatically notified of new and/or unread news items.
RSS Aggregators or RSS Readers are already integrated into most modern browsers. Should you be using an older browser, they may be available as plug-ins. Other alternative include plug-ins for mail clients such as Outlook, web-based versions or standalone software packages. Free and commercial options are available.
