Dr Maree Toombs is a Senior Research Fellow (Indigenous Health) at the School of Medicine. Her role includes curriculum development and research. Dr Toombs has over 13 years experience teaching and developing curriculum with an Indigenous perspective both in education and health. Dr Toombs was been awarded a 2011 Churchill Fellowship. She traveled to Canada to work in Universities that specialise in resilience training to improve retention rates for Indigenous students. Dr Toombs was recently awarded a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Targeted Call for Research scheme to fund a project to prevent Indigenous youth suicide. It was one of only four awarded nationally.
